WOBURN, MA, September 12, 2008 – UFA, Inc., a global leader in simulation and training products for Air Traffic Control (ATC), announced today that THALES ATM has selected UFA’s ATVoice® Voice Recognition and Response System and ATRadio® Simulated Voice Communications System for its EUROCAT Simulator Upgrade Program for Airservices Australia. ATVoice and ATRadio will be integrated with the EUROCAT-X Simulator to enhance the training capabilities for Airservices Australia. As part of this program, ATVoice and ATRadio will be deployed to Airservices Australia operational facilities in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney and the Training College and System Support Facility in Melbourne.

ATVoice is an advanced voice recognition and response system that allows the trainee to interact with the simulation exercise using clearance phraseology as used in actual operation. This enhances the simulation experience and effectiveness by training the use of standard phraseology – a critical aspect of ATC. ATVoice uses a speaker independent recognition engine to achieve the high recognition performance with rapid speech required for the ATC environment. ATVoice is also able to support non-native speaker of US English through the use of customized voice models. A text to speech engine is used with multiple voice fonts to generate pilot responses to the spoken clearances.

The complementary ATRadio product is a VoIP based simulated radio / telephony product ideal for the training environment due to low cost and flexibility and is seamlessly integrated with ATVoice.
UFA has over twenty years of experience with voice recognition and has successfully installed ATVoice for many customers including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the US Military, and International Air Navigation Service Providers.

Headquartered in Woburn, MA, UFA, Inc. is a privately held engineering firm specializing in Air Traffic Management simulation products. UFA’s product line is in use around the world and includes ATCoach®, ATower®, ATView®, ATVoice and ATRadio. UFA maintains an additional office in Gaithersburg, MD.

WOBURN, MA, July 15, 2008 – UFA, Inc., announced today that the National Guard Bureau (NGB) has acquired an additional eight (8) UFA ATTower® Desktop Tower Training Systems (DTTS) and upgrades for eleven (11) UFA ATCoach® Advanced Precision Approach Radar Training Systems (APARTS). These systems will be located at United States Army National Guard (ARNG) sites around the country and are transportable for use during deployments.

Currently the ARNG has six (6) ATTower DTTS and fifteen (15) ATCoach APARTS systems deployed in the United States. In addition, UFA ATCoach APARTS systems are deployed at a number of US Army sites in the United States, including the Army ATC Training School at Fort Rucker. The United States Air Force also operates eleven (11) ATCoach APARTS Systems in the US and abroad. The ATCoach APARTS product provides high fidelity training on several current military approach, arrival and precision approach radar systems. Air Traffic Controllers interact with APARTS using UFA’s industry leading ATVoice® voice recognition and response product. APARTS is scalable from transportable desktop configurations to large fixed training facilities.

The ATTower based DTTS provides the ARNG with the same industry leading tower simulation features as provided in larger airport configurations – but in a configuration that is both transportable and requires minimal facility space. The DTTS uses UFA’s latest generation of ATView® 3D visualization to provide highly realistic views of the ARNG airfields and contingency sites. ATVoice allows Controllers to interact during a training session through voice recognition and multiple pilot voice responses. The ARNG can further leverage ATTower’s ability to integrate with other simulators such as AVCATT and TBOS for joint pilot and controller training sessions.

Additional installations of ATTower include the LVNL in Amsterdam, the Netherlands; the FMG in Munich, Germany; the DLR in Braunschweig, Germany; the DFS in Langen, Germany; the FINAVIA, in Vantaa, Finland; EUROCONTROL IANS in Luxembourg; AAI CATC in Allahabad, India; and DGAC/DSNA at Charles De Gaulle and Orly Airports in Paris, France and was recently selected by NAV CANADA for deployment to eleven (11) facilities for ATC training. ATCoach is used in the FAA Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS) and the En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) Systems at all FAA and US Military facilities, deployed to a number of FAA CTI schools and several international ATC training institutions including the DFS in Germany.

Headquartered in Woburn, MA, UFA is a privately held engineering firm specializing in Air Traffic Management simulation products. UFA’s product line is in use around the world and includes ATCoach®, ATTower®, ATView®, ATVoice® and ATRadio®. UFA maintains an additional office in Gaithersburg, MD.

Woburn, MA (April, 2007) – UFA, Inc, a leader in simulation software for air traffic control and management, reports that ATVoice® Voice Recognition and Response (VRR) product was recently integrated with ATCoach®, the Embedded Test & Training Simulator for STARS, at Boston Consolidated TRACON. The FAA then commissioned an independent Evaluation Study to determine if VRR is acceptable for TRACON instructional purposes.

The VRR Evaluation Study was conducted by a team led by Richard Mogford, PhD of NASA- Ames Research Center. The VRR Evaluation Report summarizes the results from this study.

This is the first, and the only known, formal study independently conducted evaluating the efficacy of Voice Recognition and Response technology in an Air Traffic Control training
domain.

• The Evaluation Report makes the following significant points:
o VRR is acceptable for TRACON instructional purposes.
o The Report recommends the deployment of VRR to other STARS sites.
o VRR performed well as compared to the existing Pseudo Pilot (PP)-based system.
o VRR really came into its own in complex, high demand situations.
o VRR may shorten the time required to develop exercises and may improve the quality and flexibility of FAA terminal training programs.
o VRR errors tended to be less disruptive with easier recovery than PP errors.
o VRR always acts in accordance with its read back; not so for PPs (e.g., command entry errors).
o 90% and 110% capacity exercises were utilized in order to stress VRR.
o Only two minor edits are required to existing exercises for VRR readiness.

As the evaluation focused on the efficacy of VRR, it did not evaluate other very important points that deserve mentioning regarding the application of VRR technology in this domain:

• Major reduction in training costs are foreseen by eliminating or significantly reducing the number of PPs required.
• Training is available 24 hours per day, 7 day per week.
• VRR does not take leave or receive other assignments as humans do.
• Approximately two-thirds of the integration effort addressed required improvements to the simulator to make it “voice-ready” / “response-ready”. The integration of VRR is quite straight forward.
• Controller and PP tend to train as a team helping each other through busy periods and recovering from errors. With VRR, Controllers are more careful with their phraseology and listen more intently to the read backs – a significant training advantage with VRR.
• Using different Pilot voices for aircraft substantially increased the realism as compared to the same voice for all aircraft with PP-based systems.

With operations in MA and MD and two sites in Germany, UFA, Inc. (http://www.ufainc.com) is a global leader in simulation systems for the ATC and ATM markets. Its ATVoice product, acclaimed by many customers as the most advanced system available, is integrated with UFA’s radar and tower simulators. ATVoice may also be integrated with third party simulators and other applications in and out of the air traffic sector.

Woburn, MA. – June 15, 2006 UFA, Incorporated announced today the completion of installation and training for its atcoach Tactical edition – an/gpn-22 Precision Approach Radar (PAR) Simulation and Training System at McGuire AFB, NJ. This is the final of six additional AN/GPN-22 PAR Simulators awarded to UFA after the successful USAF evaluation of two UFA AN/GPN-22 simulators. The evaluation demonstrated the high fidelity of the UFA system needed for USAF controller training.

The ATCoach Tactical Edition PAR Simulator is a standalone system that can be deployed or used at fixed bases. The simulator includes UFA’s ATVOICE® product which provides a speaker independent voice recognition and response system avoiding the need for pseudo pilots during training exercises. The ATVOICE® TACTICAL EDITION product is also being used throughout the United States Army for approach and PAR controller training and supports the complete set of phraseology needed for these positions. This powerful system is easy to use, requires no additional staff to operate and comes with a complete set of Editors to allow the user to build additional exercises.

The systems, also located at Pease ANGB, Seymour-Johnson AFB, Holloman AFB, Langley AFB, and OCONUS sites, are being used for proficiency training and to train controllers before deployment. The simulation fidelity and voice- recognition capability achieved with ATCOACH – TACTICAL EDITION has allowed the USAF to successfully provide controllers training in all performance skills required for PAR certification “just-in-time” for deployment and to meet contingency requirements.

Headquartered in Woburn, MA, UFA is a privately held software engineering firm specializing in Air Traffic Management simulation products. UFA’s comprehensive product line is in use around the world and in addition to ATCoach includes the ATTower®/ATView™ Tower Simulation and Visualization products and the ATVoice Voice Recognition and Response product. UFA maintains additional offices in Gaithersburg, Maryland and operates a wholly owned subsidiary, ATCSim GmbH, located in Mainz and Kaufbeuren, Germany.
