UFA announces contract award for ATCoach® for the FAA STARS program

Woburn, MA, September 30, 1996 – UFA, Incorporated, announced today that the company has been awarded a Contract from the Raytheon Systems Company, Marlborough, MA for UFA’s ATCoach® Radar Simulator. ATCoach will be enhanced to meet the specific requirements of the FAA’s Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS) Program and then deployed as the STARS Embedded Test and Training Simulator. ATCoach will stimulate both Full Service Level (FSL) and Emergency Service Level (ESL) modes of the new STARS Automation System for test and training and to drive operational Performance Verification at fielded sites. ATCoach will be installed at 191 FAA TRACON, assorted Towers, and Support facilities and 140 DOD RAPCON and standalone Tower facilities including many at non-US locations.

STARS is a joint FAA and DOD program to replace capacity-constrained, older technology systems at FAA and DOD terminal radar approach control facilities and associated towers. Controllers will use STARS to provide air traffic control (ATC) services to aircraft in terminal areas. Typical terminal area ATC services include the separation and sequencing of air traffic, the provision of traffic alerts and weather advisories, and radar vectoring for departing and arriving traffic. The system will reduce the life-cycle cost of ownership, accommodate air traffic growth, and provide for the introduction of new automation functions to improve the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System (NAS).
