UFA delivers ATCoach® training simulator

Woburn, MA – UFA, Incorporated has successfully completed the on-time delivery of its ATCoach® En Route Edition Simulation product to Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] as part of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) program. ERAM, scheduled for deployment at 20 FAA en route Air Route Traffic Control Centers throughout the United States by late 2009, will replace a legacy host computer routing system that has been in use with upgrades since the 1960s.

ATCoach simulation technology supports the FAA’s mission to accelerate its training process to help meet attrition-driven re-staffing needs during the next 10 years. ATCoach provides en route air traffic controllers with the most modern and highest fidelity simulation and training technology available. Based on dynamic simulation modeling, ATCoach provides comprehensive test capability for ERAM. It will be used in subsystem, system and operational test scenarios, enabling Lockheed Martin and the FAA to reach test goals and milestones faster and with greater efficiency.

“The use of high fidelity simulation plays a key role in the FAA’s effort to optimize controller training time at the FAA Academy and field facilities,” said UFA Vice President Larry Pennett. “When combined with enhanced training methods, ATCoach simulation increases student performance and reduces overall training time.”The ATCoach product has been customized to meet the specific requirements of the FAA en route environment and will be deployed with each ERAM System. ATCoach drives the ERAM system with realistic surveillance, flight, weather and aeronautical data supporting multiple concurrent exercises and multiple site exercises.

UFA’s ATCoach products provide the ATSetup application for multi-exercise setup, monitor and control, the ATPilot application at the ghost pilot positions, and the ATCoach simulation engine. UFA also supplies ATCoach simulation technology for the FAA User Request Evaluation Tool and Terminal Automation programs. ATCoach has been integrated with other key FAA systems such as Host/DSR and is used by participants of the FAA Collegiate Training Initiative and providers of air navigation services worldwide.

Headquartered in Woburn, MA, UFA is a privately held software engineering firm specializing in Air Traffic Management simulation products. UFA’s comprehensive product line is in use around the world and in addition to ATCoach includes the ATTower®/ATView™ Tower Simulation and Visualization products and the ATVoice® Voice Recognition and Response product.
