UFA, Inc. Delivers ATVehicle Airside Driving and Pushback Simulator to EFM

Burlington, MA, April 14, 2021 – UFA, Inc. (UFA), a leading provider of Air Traffic Simulation and Voice Technologies, announces that it has delivered its ATVehicle™ Airside Driving and Pushback Simulator to EFM - Gesellschaft für Enteisen und Flugzeugschleppen am Flughafen München mbH (EFM), the experts for aircraft towing and de-icing at Munich Airport.

EFM’s ATVehicle system consists of two driver positions, based on UFA’s new custom designed vehicle simulation cockpit and high resolution 180° field-of-view visual system using 4K displays, and one instructor position for training support and debriefing. The custom, high fidelity 3D database of Munich Airport (EDDM) together with high fidelity vehicle and aircraft 3D models facilitates airfield familiarization as well as training on all operational pushback and towing procedures. The combination of high-end hardware together with state-of-the-art 3D visualization, based on UFA’s ATView3 technology, creates a highly immersive training environment for both new trainees and experienced pushback drivers.

The addition of ATVehicle supports EFM’s new training concept and their objectives to increase training capacity, success rate, and reduce training time per student.

ATVehicle’s ability to realistically simulate a wide range of pushback and towing vehicles with different characteristics is a key aspect to make the training successful. For example, ATVehicle supports pushback vehicles and operations with or without a towbar. Allowing instructors and students to train at every position on the airport helps EFM to reduce impact to live operations and increase safety. The possibility to train in a safe environment and fast iteration on training runs with the embedded debriefing functionality makes the new simulator an important tool at every stage of driver training.

“The new system with its combination of high-end hardware, immersive simulation and 3D visualization of airport operations is a game changer for EFM’s training program,” says Lucas Feldmann, Project Manager at UFA. “After seeing the training success of EFM and the higher confidence of trainees during real operations when training with the new system, it immediately becomes clear what value ATVehicle can provide to ground handling service providers and airport operators around the world. I’m excited about our continuing collaboration and look forward to adding additional capabilities to the system together with the customer.”

With the new system, EFM is well prepared for the increasing training demand. During the pandemic, refresher training is a key component to keep drivers proficient, and post-pandemic, the system will be a key contributor to efficiently and safely train staff to handle the anticipated demand. With the introduction of a new training center located just outside of Munich airport, EFM also plans to offer its training services to other customers.
