UFA Completes Modernization Upgrade to One of the Top Aviation Universities in the United States

Updated: Mar 9, 2023

Burlington, MA, February 28, 2023 – UFA, Inc. (UFA), a leading provider of Air Traffic Simulation and

Voice Technologies, completed a major modernization upgrade at the University of North Dakota’s

(UND) Radar Simulator.

Continuing our partnership of over 17 years, the upgrade modernizes hardware, operating systems, and

simulation technology that will propel UND into the next phase of US controller training. Approach

training now features simulated Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS) displays

allowing the University to train in-line with current Federal Aviation Administration tools. The system

also boasts Voice Recognition and Response, recording capabilities, and new system features; an

upgrade worth the wait!

Colt Iseminger, UND’s Academic Instructor and Air Traffic Simulation Laboratory Manager, noted,

“The software is a jump forward from where we were and has numerous features of the newest technology currently in use in the National Airspace System. We are most excited to transition from a generic digital RADAR display to the newer STARS (Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System) displays, that simulate the same display used by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Terminal Air Traffic Controllers in the field.”

UFA Associate Project Manager Ryan Yount added,

“This Project was an ambitious undertaking that pushed our training capabilities to new heights. Working with UND’s Department of Aviation and its dedicated team of instructors was a true pleasure. Boasting features such as enhanced Controller training displays and Voice Recognition and Response, this simulator upgrade provides limitless opportunities to train the future of Air Traffic Control at one of the top Collegiate Training Institutions in North America.”
